Leadership

Business leaders spend so much time focusing on different ways to drive their business forwards that they often forget about the most important resource in a company – its employees. Not only do you need to attract the best employees for your business, but you need to help them feel like they're appreciated and like they're happy. A happy workforce is more productive, more loyal, and willing to work harder for your business...

Our friends at Focus Leadership have applied for a grant to get their terrific FEBI assessment tool to a tipping point. In our opinion FEBI is one of the most relevant and important innovations in assessment today, we use it at Immersion Lab and are certified to coach and train with FEBI...

I have held wooden sticks before. A stick to aerate the soil, a stick to pierce pieces of meat, a stick to stabilize my footing on uneven terrain. Now I am learning to hold sticks for a different purpose...

Immersion

A day in Mumbai is like a week anywhere else. It’s a Leadership Development professional’s nirvana – an oasis of constant and immersive learning. Life happens on the street with a vibrancy that is unparalleled and taking executives out of the classroom to learn is a sure bet! We spent a day in market with one of our favorite healthcare clients. We departed in smaller teams of about six to seven participants for a day that took each team for a healthcare experience, a retail safari and an invigorating exchange with a local business leader...

There were 10 of us. More than half were healthcare professionals, and rest of us were business leaders and consultants. All of us came together to the Spring Green Dojo, located in a beautiful wooded valley in Southwestern Wisconsin for a Zen leadership program led by Dr. Ginny Whitelaw. I was excited to meet the other participants – kindred souls going on similar journeys to understand ourselves better as leaders, as members of a hopeful community. Incentivized to have children as a means to increase the population and too impoverished to care for their kids, thousands ended up in institutions in conditions too horrible to imagine. Devastated by the images, Olivia Harrison founded the Romanian Angel Appeal to assist orphanages in the country. With this act, George Harrison’s wife mobilized the international artistic community and volunteers and funds poured in and the rest is, as they say, history....

Ten days later and I am still trying to digest the five-day recce to Yangon. It is a rare pleasure to find oneself in a place where you stick out like a sore thumb and nobody cares. Granted it’s not high season – with temperatures in the high thirties making for sticky days and an extreme challenge being outdoors … but still the experience of walking through busy streets, and crowded and colorful markets without being hassled or hustled is quite rare. Au contraire everyone is going about their business with a certain peacefulness and ease that I certainly have not experienced in any other city with close to 5 million people...
