There are a few simple steps you can take that will help, too. Here are a few ideas to get you started down the path of enrichment. Use them, add to them, and work towards being the best leader you can be for yourself, your company, and your employees.

• Examine Yourself – The first step is to take an honest look at yourself and your capabilities. If you don’t know where your strengths and weaknesses lie, you’ll never be able to improve. If you’re not sure where to start, try to seek feedback from your boss. Ask for anonymous responses from peers, customers, and workers. Simple evaluation sheets can tell you a lot about yourself and where you should focus your improvement efforts.

• Understand Your Workplace – The work environment that your team spends its days in is a key part of how your bottom line ends up. Understanding the work culture at your company takes a little work, but it’s well worth doing. Spend some time observing your team – what they wear, what their workspace is like, how they talk to one another, and more. You can get a clear idea as to what the overall ‘vibe’ is, and what you can do to change it for the better.

• Listen! – This goes without saying, but communication really is a key part of being a good leader. For most, communication doesn’t move in both directions. You need to listen to your team and see what they have to say if you want to ensure that you can provide them with the tools they need. Listen to everyone, even if it seems like they don’t have much to offer. You could be surprised.
